Northern Territory Government Creating Opportunities for Resource Exploration

The Northern Territory has world-class resource endowment, with some of Australia's largest deposits of uranium, zinc-lead, bauxite, gold, phosphate and manganese, and numerous emerging projects for commodities such as copper, iron ore, rare earths, tungsten, mineral sands and potash, as well as conventional and unconventional oil and gas.

The CORE (Creating Opportunities for Resource Exploration) program is a four year (2014-2018), $23.8 million Northern Territory Government, exploration initiative, and is designed to maximise opportunities for the exploration and discovery of new mineral and petroleum resources. The focus of the initiative is on the acquisition of new precompetitive geoscience information to stimulate exploration, improved online delivery of information and data, as well as industry grants for high-risk exploration and programs to attract international investment into projects in the Territory. The initiative includes $2 million per annum for an accelerated program to assess the Territory's shale gas resources and potential.
